Schoharie Promotional Association

The Lilies of the Schoharie Valley Walking Path and Gardens

The Schoharie Village Campground, located between Fort Road and Route 30, and the Old Stone Fort cemetery and Fox Creek, and comprising approximately three acres, had been neglected and abandoned for a long time.  The Promotional Association received permission from the Village of Schoharie to turn this area into a walking path through lily gardens.

This area, once known as Fox’s Dorf, is the entrance to the Village of Schoharie.  Close to the Fox Creek covered bridge, which already attracts many for its ideal photo opportunities, the plan to create a gravel path, winding through the area began to take place in 2013.  Moving rocks, cutting brush, and removing weeds, volunteers cleared much of the area.  Landscape fabric and stone was purchased and a path was established around the park.

Our vision is to fill the park with all varieties of lilies.  Designated as a community park, requests for residents, businesses, and organizations to assist us in this endeavor continue.  While some areas have been adopted, there is plenty of areas to be planted.  There are only two requirements for those wanting to adopt a garden spot:  maintenance of the spot and inclusion of some form of lily in the garden.  Top soil and other planting materials are available in the park and plans are to purchase a shed to house planting tools.

This is a perfect place to plant an area in memory of a loved one.  Contributors and gardeners will receive inscribed plaques for their areas.

Lilies are easy to grow and can be easily divided from home gardens and the Association welcomes  transplants from personal gardens.  If you would like to adopt and area or would like to contribute lily transplants, contact the Association:

Saturday, May 28th:  A great day for the ribbon cutting at the Stone Labyrinth Area in the Lilies of the Schoharie Valley Walking Path and Gardens. If you haven't visited the lily park yet, be sure to stop by and check out this beautiful area created by Schoharie's three chuches. A wonderful spot to visit and enjoy. The Schoharie Promotional Association is so appreciative of the efforts of all who made this the first of many gardens that will fill this community park. Thank you to all who came out on this very warm day!
