Trunk or Treat in Schoharie started in 2011 after Hurricane Irene devastated the Village of Schoharie. With most of the village rebuilding after the flood or relocating, there wasn't a safe option for children to go trick or treating. The Promotional Association decided to use the Trunk or Treat concept used in large cities and churches, where cars park in designated areas, open their trunks and provide treats to trick or treaters. The children walk in safely lit areas, from car-to-car and collect their treats.
Trunk or Treat was a huge success with many people bringing their decorated cars to the village to provide a fun evening for the children of the Schoharie School District. There was a haunted van, dump truck graveyards, costumed children and adults, and fun for everyone. It was so popular that people asked if we could continue it every year.
